• De Zalze
De Zalze Golf Club, part of the De Zalze Winelands Golf Estate just south of Stellenbosch in the Cape Winelands, offers a championship-caliber experience in a setting of natural elegance. Designed by Peter Matkovich and opened in 2001, it is consistently ranked among South Africa’s top 30 courses and is regarded as one of the premier tracks in the Western Cape. Set against the backdrop of the Helderberg Mountains, the par-72 course spans 6,385 meters and weaves through vineyards, olive groves, and pockets of indigenous parkland. The Blaauwklippen River and a series of lakes come into play on several holes, adding both visual appeal and strategic complexity. The result is a tranquil yet thoughtfully designed layout that tests shot-making while remaining playable for a wide range of handicaps.
• Stellenbosch
Stellenbosch Golf Club, established in 1904 and expanded to an 18-hole championship course by 1953, is South Africa’s fourth-oldest golf venue. Situated at the base of the Helderberg Mountains, just south of Stellenbosch, the course winds through mature trees and vineyards, offering panoramic views of the surrounding town and mountains. This classic parkland layout has a proud tournament history, having hosted the 1999 South African Open and several South African Masters
• Clovelly
Clovelly Golf Club, nestled in the scenic Silvermine Valley on the Cape Peninsula near Fish Hoek, is a charming 18-hole parkland course with a rich heritage. Originally established in 1934 and later shaped by the 1932 designs of Dr?Charles?Molteno?Murray with landscaping by Bobby Lewin, it offers a classic yet challenging golf experience. The par?72 layout is defined by narrow, tree-lined fairways sculpted from natural sand dunes, gently undulating terrain, and elevated greens. Kikuyu fairways contrast with bentgrass/poa annua greens, demanding precision in approach and putting. Framed by views of False Bay, the Kalk Bay mountains, and the rugged Silvermine range, Clovelly combines natural beauty with strategic design. The course was reportedly a favorite of South African golf legend Bobby Locke, adding to its storied appeal
• Royal Cape
Royal Cape Golf Club, established in 1885, holds the distinction of being the oldest championship golf club in Africa. It was granted its “Royal” status by King George?V in 1910 following a visit by the Duke of Connaught, a mark of prestige that underscores its historical importance. Situated in Wynberg, Cape Town, the course lies beneath the dramatic backdrop of Table Mountain and Devil’s Peak, offering both heritage and scenery. This par?72, 18?hole parkland course extends approximately 6,121?m from the back tees. In 1929, the layout was redesigned by Dr Charles Murray, who reshaped it into the elegant, tree-lined track it is today. Characterized by tight fairways, subtle USGA?spec greens, strategic bunkering, and thoughtfully placed water hazards, the course rewards precision and intelligent course management.
• Milnerton
Milnerton Golf Club, located just north of Cape Town in the Milnerton suburb, is a distinctive 18-hole, par?72 coastal links-style course. Perched between the Atlantic Ocean and the Rietvlei Lagoon, it offers breathtaking views of Table Mountain and the city skyline. Originally established in 1913 as a six-hole course, Milnerton was gradually expanded before undergoing a major redesign in 1995 by Mark Muller of Golf Data.
