Simola Golf & Country Estate, situated in Knysna on South Africa’s Garden Route, boasts an 18-hole, par-72 Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course. Since opening in 2005, it has stood out as one of only three Jack Nicklaus-designed courses in Africa and is notable for being the first on the continent. Perched atop Simola Hill, the course offers spectacular panoramic views. The initial seven holes showcase breathtaking sights of the Knysna Heads and Lagoon, while the remaining 11 holes provide vistas over the Knysna River.
Pezula Championship Golf Course, situated in Knysna on South Africa’s Garden Route, is celebrated for its stunning views and demanding design. Created by Ronald Fream and David Dale of GolfPlan USA, the course opened in 2000 and quickly earned a reputation among golfers who appreciate a blend of natural beauty and challenging play. Set across 254 hectares on the East Head of Knysna, the course offers sweeping panoramas of the Knysna Lagoon and the Indian Ocean. With a par of 72, it combines rolling fairways, significant elevation changes, and coastal landscapes that seamlessly integrate into the surroundings.
Fancourt’s Montagu Course, the original of the estate’s three Gary Player-designed layouts, lies in the heart of George on South Africa’s Garden Route. Since opening in the early 1990s, it has earned a reputation as one of the country’s premier parkland courses, consistently praised for its immaculate conditioning, thoughtful design, and the dramatic mountain backdrop provided by the Outeniqua range. Though always strong in character, Montagu has evolved over the years through key upgrades including a notable redesign by David McLay Kidd in 2005 and further refinements in 2018 by Player himself. These enhancements improved the course’s playability and strategic depth, while preserving its classic feel.
Outeniqua Golf Course, part of the prestigious Fancourt estate in George along South Africa’s scenic Garden Route, is a beautifully designed 18-hole parkland course that captures the essence of relaxed yet refined resort golf. Framed by the imposing Outeniqua Mountains, the course was designed by Gary Player and opened in the early 1990s as one of three signature layouts at Fancourt. While the Montagu and The Links courses at Fancourt are known for their championship-level difficulty, Outeniqua is considered the more forgiving and accessible of the trio ideal for mid to high handicap golfers or those seeking a more relaxed round without compromising on quality.
The Links at Fancourt, located in George on South Africa’s Garden Route, is a premier golf destination renowned for its challenging design and stunning scenery. Designed by Gary Player, the course opened in 2000 and has since hosted prestigious tournaments, including the 2003 Presidents Cup, the 2005 South African Airways Open Championship, and the 2012 Volvo Golf Champions.
Pinnacle Point Golf Club stretches over 6,500 meters (about 6,391 yards) and features seven holes that run along the dramatic cliffs of the Indian Ocean, with four holes played directly over the ocean. The course is known for its undulating fairways, coastal winds, and rugged cliffside terrain, offering both breathtaking views and a true test of golf. Among its standout holes are the 7th, a par-3 that demands a precise tee shot over a deep ravine to a green perched precariously on the cliff edge, and the 18th, a par-5 featuring a thrilling approach shot over a canyon to a green well guarded by waste areas and bunkers.
